Hi there photo enthusiasts!
I am so excited to have you join this walk. It doesn’t matter what level of expertise you are at. It does not matter what kind of camera you use. Everyone is welcome on this walk, newbie or pro, expensive DSLR or smart phone shooter. What matters is we go out there to enjoy the beautiful AZ weather and scenery. It’s about connecting with other people and sharing. So what do you say? Are you ready to take a walk with me?
LOCATION: Our group will be meeting at the Tempe Center for the Arts building. There should be plenty of parking in the west side lot. From there, we will walk east along the lake and take advantage of some fun shooting opportunities along the way. We will then start south at about the midway point and meet at Macayo’s Restaurant on 3rd and Ash. It’s roughly 3/4 mile each way. So make sure you can make a 1 1/2 mile minimum trek (trust me, you will not be walking a straight line the entire time). In fact, although I am leading this walk, you are free to break off and explore a bit on your own.
WHAT TO BRING: Well, I suppose it goes without saying you will need some sort of image taking device Fresh batteries and sufficient memory are something you want to make sure you have. It’s AZ, so I suggest water, sunscreen and comfortable shoes / attire. That, and your willingness to have fun and shoot whatever you fancy. You can even catch me for questions or suggestions. You can bring a tripod / light modifiers or any other gear your heart desires. Just remember that what you bring will be that much extra weight to haul around.
SAFETY: As I stated, we will all start and finish at a common location. What you do in between, I’d like to leave up to you, but in general, let’s try to stay in a loosely tied together group. I have no problems if younger photographers join, as long as they are accompanied by an adult. We will be moving along water, near a train track crossing and around some traffic. Keep these things in mind and always be safe – it’s not worth the potential of being injured to “get the shot.” Be mindful and follow any posted precautionary signs.
HAVE FUN! This one of the most important things. Ask questions, talk to someone you have never met and try to be inclusive of individuals who may look like they need help or would like to be included. Let’s respect each other and the great location in which we will be shooting. I look forward to seeing you all out there!
NOTE: If anyone has any interest, after we eat and share our pictures, I would be happy to do some night shooting afterwards either on Mill Avenue or back along lakeside. Let me know if you are because night shooting is my favorite!
** Also, we will not leave the starting point until about 4:15PM. If you want to network or pass out business cards and such, you can do this between 4:00PM and 4:15PM **
