Photo Walk Description

Note that all sign-up emails still say the Downtown Market as the location. THIS IS NOT TRUE (and there’s not a way for me to change it from what I can tell).

NEW LOCATION!!! We’ll start at Gerald R. Ford Museum (please meet between 10:45 and 11 a.m. by the water features of the museum) and then split up to check out various parts of ArtPrize:

  • Group 1: North — Includes the Blue Bridge, Grand Rapids Public Museum, The Morton, Calder Plaza, DeVos Place, Kendall College Woodbridge N. Ferris Building
  • Group 2: Midtown — Includes UICA, Grand Rapids Art Museum, The B.O.B., City Flats Hotel, Amway Grand Plaza

We’ll end at The B.O.B. at 2 p.m. sharp to enjoy some food and brews.

The map has now been reflected to show the location change. Specifically, we’ll be meeting by the water features outside of the museum.

Comments for this walk

  1. Nancy Kleist says:

Please update the meeting location with the map. Also – specifically where at the museum will we meet?

  2. David says:

I’m going to be in the Grand Rapids area for the first time, where would you recommend parking, at the museum or nearby?

    • Bryan says:

      David -

Parking is at a premium, especially during ArtPrize. But there’s a few places around the Ford Museum you may want to check out:

Parking lot on Pearl: this is just past the museum. Small lot but could be a good first choice given we’re starting earlier than most venues open.

GVSU Eberhard Center garage: within walking distance of the museum.

You could also park closer to the BOB and walk over; it’s close enough and there are TONS of parking garages in that area.

  3. Robert says:

I’m not familiar with GR either. Is that public parking (on Google Maps street view)at the corner of Fulton St & Market Ave SW? It’s kitty-corner to the B.O.B and looks convenient for where we would end up.

    • Bryan says:

There’s actually parking right across from the main entrance of the BOB – and lots of it. If you want to be close to where we end up, I recommend there. It’s right on Monroe north of the BOB.

  4. Tom says:

Is one of the groups trip shorter? I have some mobility issues and have concerns about stairs and other challenges.
    Thank you

    • Bryan says:

Tom – I would think that group 2 would be somewhat shorter. More indoor venues versus wandering around outside for sure. Group 2 will also end with looking at The BOB, which is where we’re going to end up anyways.

I believe all the indoor venues are handicap accessible except for the Morton building (which is in group 1), so I don’t think stairs / elevators will be an issue.

We may switch up the venues slightly, depending on what people want to see, however. If everyone’s already looked at the GRAM, for instance, we may skip that. And, of course, everyone might not want to wait in line for a half hour to get in to certain places. I’ve got some alternate venue ideas for both groups if this happens.

      See you Saturday!

      • Tom says:

Thank you that does make me feel better. My wife and I just moved to this area of the state and I do not know Grand Rapids yet. Looking forward to Saturday with hopefully no rain this year.

    • Bryan says:

Furthermore, I’ve also thought about adding a group 3. We have a few people on the waitlist, so are numbers are 50+ now, which I’m pleasantly surprised by!

I’m going to look at the details of this, and hopefully send out a mass message to everyone by Friday morning.
