Lightroom Q&A

So this version is now called Lightroom CC?

The current version of Lightroom is called Lightroom CC, and includes access to Lightroom on your mobile devices. It’s part of the Photographers Bundle subscription plan from Adobe, and its included in the full Creative Cloud as well.

Is this a free upgrade as a Creative Cloud subscriber?

Absolutely is. This is one of the benefits that you get – free updates for all of the software you know and love.

How do I get all of the features that come out after Lightroom 6 is announced?

I would recommend you guys use the Creative Cloud Photography Plan. At 10 bucks, you get updates to both Photoshop and Lightroom – continuously. Can’t beat that.

Will Lightroom work on my Android

I'm happy to report that Lightroom does in fact work on Android phones and tablets! Hooray!

What feature are you excited the most about?

There are three things that really stand out for me:

  • I really think that they did a good job with including HDR into the program. You don’t have to rely on a third party program (or Photoshop), and you can get really good naturalistic images from a smaller amount of images.
  • I am happy for "Headless Mode” - I’d like to be able to send some HDR files or panoramas to merge and get back to working on another picture. That can be a great timesaver.
  • Lastly, as a person who uses both high DPI screens (4K) as well as large images, Lightroom’s better use of the GPU will be something that will impact me on a daily basis.
Is there one thing you wish this release would have included?

They got really close on something here. In Lightroom CC you now have an option to duplicate a collection in the Collections panel. I would have LOVED it if they would let you duplicate a Collection Set with the included collections in it. This way I could keep a sample Collection Set with collections and reuse it when I needed it.

What’s going to happen to my Lightroom 5 Catalog?

Once you install Lightroom CC, you’ll be asked to select the catalog that you want to work with. If you select the Lightroom 5 catalog, you will be asked if you want to upgrade it to the newest version. Click on upgrade and you’ll be all set!

I hope you enjoy the Lightroom CC Resource Center. If you want to dive in deeper into Lightroom make sure you check out the 14 new classes that we have over on KelbyOne. Would love to see you there!
